BALTIMORE, MAY 16, 2005 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Thomson Prometric, the global leader in technology-enabled testing and assessment services, and part of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC), in collaboration with Microsoft, today announced the release of the Microsoft Learning simulation-based certification exams into the global IT market.

Simulation-based exams mimic real life scenarios and, as a result, provide a better measure of a test taker's ability on the job. The Microsoft Learning simulation-based exams feature a combination of traditional test question types and simulated work situations where test takers are required to demonstrate their IT skills by performing critical tasks.

"We're excited to offer this leading edge technology for the IT marketplace," said Mark Muth, Vice President of Global Client Segments at Thomson Prometric. "Microsoft Learning's leadership and commitment to bringing additional value and security to the certification industry is extraordinary. Thomson Prometric is dedicated to providing high quality exam services in a secure, consistent and comfortable testing environment through our global testing center network."

"Performance based testing with simulations is an important new tool for individuals and organizations who invest in certifying skills" said Al Valvano, Group Product Manager at Microsoft Learning. "Candidates can demonstrate hands-on experience in the simulated exam environment in a way that more accurately measures and validates their skills in the real world. Organizations and hiring managers gain confidence that staff with Microsoft Certifications can perform the kinds of real world tasks they would experience on the job, and bring tangible business benefits."

The simulation technology requires strict workstation requirements, for optimal performance. As such, Thomson Prometric delivers these critical exams through its testing center network with the highest standards for workstation requirements.

Additional Microsoft simulation exams will be available through Thomson Prometric testing centers in the summer of 2005. To register for your Microsoft simulation-based certification exam, visit http://www.prometric.com .
